The day has finally arrived!  R and I are off for our 2 week jaunt in Europe.  Four cities, four countries, one train and seven days of biking.  I am really looking forward to the adventures, but also to simply exploring new places.  Traveling can open up your imagination to new possibilities, renew creativity and refresh your soul.  But my focus for this particular trip to simply enjoy.  My to-do list is far smaller than anything previously.  To simply explore a new place, new food and new people.  It also helps that we have 7 days of leisurely biking through the Hungarian countryside.

For the next 2 weeks, I am taking a break (on purpose) from blogging.  However, follow me on instagram (@teawithhummingbirds) or twitter (@teahummingbirds) for all my trip updates!
Happy jetsetting!

packing list: europe

Seven. More. Days!  I cannot believe that in just 1 week, R and I will be headed over to Europe for 2 weeks of sight-seeing, bike riding and exploring new cities.  We are visiting 4 cities (Helsinki, Prague, Vienna, Budapest) and spending a week riding bikes through Hungary around Lake Balston.  This will definitely be my longest vacation since college, and I am excited for a chance to relax and enjoy new scenery.

Though I have not officially started yet, I have been packing in my mind for months.  Stocking up on items that I think will be perfect for going our trip.  Since we will be doing a lot of sight-seeing and it being summertime, I wanted to make sure I had some super comfortable shoes, light airy dresses (way easier to pack), fun hat for sun protection, a great carryall and a few layering pieces.

I have rounded up a few packing essentials perfect for a european vacation.  I love the idea of an easy summer dress in a fun pattern that can easily go from day to night and an easy cotton/linen skirt that can you can wear with anything from a basic tee to a chambray shirt.  I have also added a maxi dress to one of my traveling must-haves!  They are perfect for the plane and wandering through new places.  Not included are 2 absolute must-haves: a camera and extra space in the suitcase for all your found treasures!

california adventure-tahoe

Since R and I are taking our big vacation / honeymoon in a little over a week, we decided to stay close to home for our 1st anniversary.  Living in Northern California one of our all time favorite places to visit is Lake Tahoe.  We have spent most of our summertime in Tahoe backpacking, but this time we stayed at a hotel resort.  Our room walked right out onto the beach of the lake and made for a gorgeous walk each morning.
On Saturday, we spent the day leisurely hanging out at the hotel, walking around the downtown and enjoying a local brewery and pizza.  It was still pretty chilly, so there was definitely no swimming, but it was gorgeous just spending time wandering around South Lake.

On Sunday (our actual anniversary), we woke up early to go for a run following the lakeshore, and then headed out to Fallen Leaf Lake for a hike and picnic.  We found a gorgeous little waterfall and laid out all our picnic fixings in the sun to enjoy.   Tahoe is amazingly picturesque and an easy 4 mile hike will bring you to "hidden lakes" and gorgeous vistas.

Afterwards, it was dinner at Cafe Fiore {excellent}, a bottle of JCB wine we have been saving for a "special occasion" and mini version of our wedding cake {susie cakes} for dessert!  Our first year of marriage has been an amazing opportunity for growth and building a partnership together.  Learning to live more selflessly, more in the moment and continuing to find little adventures together.  I have no doubt that we still have a lot to learn still, but excited to see what the next phase brings!

happy father's day

{bottom photo-Nirav Photography}
"A new father quickly learns that his child invariably comes to the bathroom at the precisely the times when he's in there, as if he needed company."
-Bill Cosby
Happy father's day to a dad who raised 4 girls in 1 bathroom.  Attended years of piano recitals, swim meets, school programs and running races.  Who sacrificed a peaceful home for one filled with constant yelling, sleepovers and endless number of boyfriends.  One who ran across entire golf courses in cowboy boots in order to cheer me on at different spots in my cross country races and still managed to make it to the finish line just as I crossed.  One who drove across the country to help me move and then dealt with SF traffic and a Uhaul.  And then took his first airplane ride to walk me down the aisle.

I am one lucky daughter!  Thanks dad!

happy weekend!

Well, I took kind of an unexpected leave of absence from blogging...  May, and now it seems June is full of traveling, dinners and visits with friends and this weekend promises to continue the trajectory!  Also, R and I are in the final stretch before our 2 week adventure to Eastern Europe.  I cannot believe that the trip we booked back in January is nearly here!  I am so excited to visit 3 new cities (Prague, Vienna and Budapest) and bike along the Hungarian countryside.  Any recommendations are definitely welcome!!  So, for the next 8 days, we will be busy prepping and spending some quality time with Moz!

Have a lovely weekend!
