california adventure-shower lake

This past weekend, R and I traveled east towards Tahoe for an overnight backpacking trip.  It was a great and challenging 8 mile trail.  At the end, was this gorgeous little lake called Shower Lake.  The Tahoe area is full of hidden little lakes way up in the mountains and this was a perfect retreat from the city grind.

Unfortunately, it was a little to chilly to go swimming (still a ton of snowmelt!), but we enjoyed it nonetheless.  I also had the chance to do a long run further along the PCT trail, which was an amazing break from all the marathon training on the roads!

Summer Fun: RV Love

I can't believe how quickly summer is wrapping up.  Even though here in SF we're already wearing scarves and boots (and have been for a few weeks now), I  still feel that summer rushed by!  The days are slowly starting to get shorter and fall is around the corner.

Also, the end of summer comes the multitude of weekend plans, so R and I are taking advantage of one of our last free weekends to head out to the wilderness!  I am looking forward to getting out of the city and enjoying a night under the stars!

Though I will be spending the weekend in a tiny tent, I had to share some pics of another way to enjoy "camping"...with RV's.  Wouldn't it be amazing to spend a weekend (or longer!) in these amazing little homes away from home.

Happy weekend!!

western twist

Here in SF, we really don't get much of a summer until late September...early October, so I am clearly dreaming of fall fashion to wear now!  So, I was thrilled when I found some great faux leather booties from Old Navy this weekend.  They are a great addition for fall and a nod to my love of western wear (I guess its my Kansas roots showing).

After I found the boots, I immediately began dreaming of outfits to put together for fall.  One great store that has an amazing fall collection and just opened a store in SF is Madewell.  After reviewing their fall lookbook, I chose a couple of outfits that are inspirational to anyone dreaming of the leaves changing colors.  I am most excited to translate the shirtdress/flannel combination from my own wardrobe.  Though...maybe adding some tights later for a little extra warmth.

To dress down the boots, I love the idea of pairing them with a pair of skinny jeans, silk blouse (below is a fabulous one from J. Crew) and a fitted blazer.  I have been on the lookout for a great blazer, so excited to see if this one works out.

For "back to school" I love the idea of a hip backpack and easy timex watch.  Both of those are definite must-haves for anyone heading back to the classroom, or just commuting to work!
